🐾 Kids at the Dog Park: Real Stories, Safety Risks & Smarter Solutions

Discover Silliman Dog Park, a beloved community spot for pet owners traveling through or living in Fort Stockton, Texas. This fully fenced dog park caters to both locals and travelers, offering plenty of space—especially for large dogs—to run and play off-leash under the West Texas sky. The park is divided into two enclosures: one for small dogs and another spacious area for dogs over 30 lbs. The large dog section is particularly notable for its rare shaded spots, a welcome relief in the area’s arid climate.
Silliman Dog Park features agility equipment to keep your dog entertained and active. Waste bag stations are available, encouraging owners to help keep the space clean, though frequent visitors note the importance of staying watchful for uncollected waste. While there are no water fountains, the park’s grassy terrain and proximity to a children’s playground make it an enjoyable stop for both dogs and families. Whether you’re stopping for a break during a road trip or enjoying Fort Stockton’s local amenities, Silliman Dog Park provides a safe and fun environment for your furry friend.
Stopped with our toddler and two large dogs on long drive home, everyone got to stretch legs. Large dog park for 30+ lbs was huge and had SHADE! something lacking at the small dog section and even the adjacent children’s playground. No water, but that’s not a surprise out here. Completely fenced, second gate missing, lots of agility things for your pup to do and a few baggie stations.
I took my Min Pin mix to this park when I had some business in Fort Stockton. The small dog park was full of dog poop everywhere because people don’t know how to pick up after their animal. The larger dog area was better but still had piles laying around because people want dogs that don’t want to actually take care of them. I highly recommend watching your step. They do have some nice activities for the dogs with the agility equipment. I would go back there with my dog if I had to but it was not the best facility I’ve ever been to.
Nice park. The big space for large dogs is really nice. Just sad that, even though clean up bags are provided by the park, people don’t pick up after their dogs. Be considerate!
We came early in the morning during a weekday and found the park empty so we got to thoroughly enjoy the grassy area all to ourselves! There was still dew on the grass and Chiko doesn’t like getting his paws wet, otherwise this would’ve been the perfect place for him to stretch his little legs. There’s two enclosures, one for small dogs and the other for larger dogs. We noticed a couple of areas where a dog could squeeze out under the fence which was our only concern during our visit.
Nice large dog park. Some fun obstacles. The air lock gate is not working. Makes it hard to bring your dog in with other dogs at the gate. There isn’t a water source.
