FAQ for Fontana Dam Basin in Fontana Dam North Carolina:
After Hurricane Helene the roads were cut off to hikers. These guys ferried us to our campsite where we hiked back over the course of 3 days. Very knowledgeable of the history and these guys just seem to love what they’re doing. Great experience.
Definitely a beautiful marble of the dam. The gift shop up on top the tenant was very nice very helpful and giving us information for the area. They had snacks and cold drinks and their chocolate bars yeah they’re expensive it’s for a good cause but they’re tasty they’re really good
We had an incredible day on the pontoon! The staff was kind, funny, and welcoming, teaching us how to operate the boat, covering safety, and giving great tips on where to explore. They even filled our cooler with ice and let us use a golf cart to grab supplies. The boat was spotless, the scenery was beautiful, and tubing was the highlight — our kids (11 to 13) had an absolute blast. Perfect family fun from start to finish. Highly recommend and we will definitely be back!
A beautiful place that calms your mind with peace and pleasant feeling just by listening to all the sounds around. Definitely recommend it, but make sure to download offline maps as this area or the that of 20 mile radius will not have the reception.
We went to the visitors center but it was closed. Drove over the top of the dam, just an amazing structure.
Very pretty spot to relax and walk around a bit. Spectacular Penn stock Flume when they have the sluice Gates open.
Love the “secret side of the smokys”. Very quiet, beautiful, and unproblematic way to enjoy the nature of the Smokys. The shop was open 24/7 for anything we forgot. The lazy river and pool were great and not very crowded. My cottage was super cute. Lots to do at the village and the staff was great. Will return!!
Worth it to check out if you are in the area. When we went, it was pretty empty…nobody was really there. Awesome views from behind the dam as well. They have plaques etc set up around so you can read about the dam while you are there. Recommended to visit!
