So, 2 years ago I would have given this 5 stars, hands down. The problem is that after the swinging bridge across Rock Creek, there used to be a small foot bridge over Welcome Creek just above where it meets Rock Creek to the trail in the wilderness area. This smaller bridge was getting pretty old and jangkitty so the Forest Service took it out, but it hasn’t been replaced. So you can’t really get to the trail over the Creek safely until at least mid June now, if not later depending on the snow pack each year. Additionally, you’re likely getting wet about three minutes into you hike because you have to walk through the creek now.

Beautiful view from the bridge. Really cool suspension bridge. Beautiful trail! Huckleberries near the parking area!

Welcome Creek trail is one of the best trails for hiking in the Rock Creek drainage. Find it around the 14 mile mark on Rock Creek Road.

A must see if you’re going to be on Rock Creek.

Lovely, peaceful setting. A footbridge crosses the creek … look down and you’re likely to spot a trout. A great place to spend the day with a picnic lunch and explore the trails. The road to this area is not paved and is quite a drive in from the freeway, but well worth your time. Ample parking is available as well as a restroom.
