Great, mostly quiet, senic & peaceful park.. creek isn’t what it used to be.. they should dam it down stream to increase water levels.
The park can be a little hard go navigate because it’s so vast. Love everything else about the park. Plenty of places to enjoy the water (when there isn’t drought). Great place for a picnic or to rent a pavilion for a party. There are some athletic facilities, walking paths, and at least one playground. There are fountains with potable water around the park.
We absolutely loved Mingo Creek Park. The stillness of the trails, the charming covered bridges, and the well-maintained grounds created such a calming and restorative experience. The trails were incredible, and there was so much to explore beyond just hiking.
As someone who picks up litter regularly, I was especially impressed by how clean the park was. The trash cans were thoughtfully covered in a way that prevented bags from blowing away or falling inside the barrels — something I wish more parks in NYC would adopt. Not a single piece of litter in sight. Truly a gem of a park.
Great park with so many things to do! I took my dogs to the dog park and it is one of the preheat dog parks I have seen. There are also trails, playgrounds, pickleball courts, lots of shelters, and more.
We came here after visiting McConnell and looking for more (younger) kid-friendly creeks to splash in. A Kidsburgh article stated that nearly every portion of the creek is great for wading and I believe it! We entered the section by Hemlock trails and found a lot of broken glass though. We returned to the Creek a second day with water shoes and chose the section across from the huge beige slide: it had a few large flat rocks that other kids were using as slides. It had plenty of flatter rocky space next to the creek to walk on, along with deeper channels in the creek section to wade in.
The playgrounds were a hit but the drop down toilets were not ideal for small children and my eldest would refuse to use them which created a challenge.
The only downside of this park was that we’d arrive later on the day due to our schedule and then get rained out before we had our fill. What a treasure to have in the neighborhood and get to experience as visitors!
