If you’re looking for a dog park in Farmingdale, New York, please note that Dark Horse Tavern is not a dog park but a popular local tavern known for its vibrant atmosphere and excellent food options. Conveniently situated on Main St with a large parking lot in the back, it’s an accessible spot for gatherings and events, hosting everything from casual meetups to high school reunions. Their menu includes a wide variety of pub food and craft beers, and they often cater private events with attentive staff.
There are no dog-specific amenities such as fenced areas, off-leash zones, or pet facilities at Dark Horse Tavern. The location is not designed for pet-friendly trails or dog park-style features, but its reputation for hospitality and large parking availability makes it a reliable venue for social events in Farmingdale. If you’re seeking dog parks or pet-friendly activities, you may want to explore other local options nearby that specifically accommodate dogs and their owners.
This place is a gem. Easily one of the best beer selections I’ve seen in Long Island. The food from IKE’s Burgers which is a food truck located in the back lot was insane. To start We order some chicken empanadas. I’m a sucker for corned beef so when I saw a Reuben I had to order it and it was exactly what I was looking for. We also order a chic-Phil-a with buttermilk fried chicken pickles onions and homemade chic filet sauce. Next level!!!! You could see everything is made fresh to order and homemade. The whole old school tavern vibe and the delicious food makes this a hidden gem. If I lived closer I’d be there multiple times a week
Held out son’s HS Graduation lunch party & it was perfect! Regina, Anna and Nick did an amazing job hosting our family. 10 out of 10 highly recommend Dark Horse for private events and especially book with Regina, Anna and Nick if you can. They were superb!
First time here, only because we had a gift card. We walked in & there was 1 waitress/bartender & legit not a soul in there. It was about 2:40-45. She nicely tells us they’re still serving breakfast but if we really want lunch she can try to “convince” the chef to start the lunch menu. Unless they were expecting an influx of patrons at 2:59 who want pancakes, I think it was safe to start serving lunch…we at least look at the brunch menu (on Instagram because we’re informed the menus didn’t print in time for the holiday weekend) & it’s pure breakfast food so she hands us the late night snack menu. We order mozzarella sticks & wait for 3:00 to order lunch. I got the California wrap but asked for the dressing on the side. My husband got the Santa Fe sandwich. Mine comes with dressing on it, of course, so I give it a try anyway but it’s spicy as hell, I couldn’t even eat it. My husband wasn’t enjoying his sandwich too much but we swapped anyway and it was a mess. The fries were so salty & soggy they were inedible. I almost wanted to send it back but I was afraid of the chef to be honest since for a measly 15 minutes we couldn’t order lunch. We took the half a wrap home but the to-go Tupperware we got didn’t even fit. I didn’t bother the waitress because through no fault of hers she was getting busy with people at the bar. When we left there was 1 other couple at another table. We knew we weren’t going to get a 5 star meal but still, a little pride in your food wouldn’t hurt. Won’t be going back.
We had our 10 year high school reunion at Dark Horse, and it was a great experience! The food is very good, our waitress Morgan was great and attentive, and Genevieve helped us plan the whole event and bartended for us. Genevieve was super responsive and flexible throughout the whole process. The prices for open bar/food are also super reasonable. I recommend Dark Horse to anyone for a larger event.
Great spot to grab a beer and catch up with friends.
There’s a large parking lot in the back, and the location is very accessible.
I came here on a weekday for lunch and sat at the bar with a friend. The bartender was great—attentive but not overbearing. There was a solid selection of beers and a good variety on the food menu.
I ordered the Juicy Lucy and clearly struggle with reading comprehension, because I completely missed the part where it said stuffed with cheese. I was definitely surprised when I bit into my burger and cheese spilled out the back—but I loved it. Great pub food all around.
