Located in the heart of Far Rockaway, the Rockaway Freeway Dog Run is a large, open dog park that offers plenty of green space for dogs to run free and socialize. This inviting dog park in Far Rockaway, New York, is known for its friendly community, accessible entrance, and safe, fenced-in areas where pets can play off-leash. It’s a pet-friendly spot loved by locals and offers a refreshing oasis close to the city with easy access for both owners and their pets.
Convenient for families, this dog park features benches and picnic tables for relaxing, as well as separate small and large dog areas. There is a water fountain onsite (bring your own bowl just in case), and dog owners appreciate the grassy surface and generally welcoming vibe. Visitors should come prepared for seasonal mosquitoes and the possibility of muddy spots after rain. While there’s no dedicated parking lot, you can usually find street parking near the entrance, making it easy for everyone to access this dog-friendly haven.
Great lil dog park. They need to fill the large hole in the back that fills up with muddy water after rain. Bring plenty of towels for cleanup.
Nice place for the doggies, but it has too many mosquitoes
Nice open space for dogs to run free. A couple of smaller gated off areas too. No parking. Just pull over to side of road in front of main gates. Bring doggy bags.
Large, clean area for dogs to frolic! Surprisingly quiet for being near the subway. There’s a water fountain but didn’t see if there were bowls. No designated parking but people seemed to just park on the side of the road. Friendly dog owners and dogs when we were there. There was a second area that was also gated. Another reviewer noted mosquitoes – YES, even on a dry, summy day we were swarmed, so bring bug repellent for the humans. Fun first time!
It was my first visit to the Rockaway Freeway dog park with my beagapoo and my daughter and her standard poodle, where we spent a delightful hour. All grass, large space for dogs to run and play with benches for us.
There were about 6-7 dogs total and my dog was the smallest, so I did not go to the small dog area. All the dogs and the people were friendly, the doggies had fun and I plan to make this a regular spot to visit this summer. Next time I’ll take a picture!
