This is one of thee cleanest beaches in New York City. Though the tides and currents are POWERFUL! The lifeguards respond fast to incidents and the porter in the woman’s bathroom does an excellent job at maintaining and cleaning the bathrooms. Everytime I come to this Beach I feel like I’m in another state or out of town. Since Hurricane Sandy the city has fixed the boardwalk up Lovely! Because it’s deep in the channel, it gets windy on average, so bring a jacket or sweater if you’re staying later in the evening. Even if you’re not staying late bring a jacket.

Had a great experience, be aware that the water is freezing even in July. Other than that had a great day, the beach was full, but it was expected to be since we are in summer — not a lot of dinner options. Be careful on what area you choose to sit in; there is a part of the beach designated just for surfers. If you don’t have a surfer table, you won’t be allowed in the water. Guards and police won’t let you in the water after 6, so I would recommend going early so you can enjoy it fully.

It’s really nice and you could even go surfing, provided there aren’t very many people. But there are just too many people, especially during peak summer days. The entire beachfront becomes a free for all, so you need to get there early if you want parking spot AND a nice spot on the beach.

Atlantic seawater is a little cold, but not enough to ruin beach experience.

I love this place. It’s so relaxing and clean. It is a non smoking beach, so please respect that when you go. They do so much to keep it clean for us. The Ripper is the best place to eat fresh and delicious fast food. Great drinks and amazing icecream.
