Located just outside Fairplay, Colorado, the Pika Trail Trailhead offers scenic, pet-friendly hiking experiences for dog owners looking for a true mountain adventure. This dog-friendly hiking trail welcomes four-legged companions to join you as you enjoy breathtaking elevation gains, abundant wildlife sightings—including elk and moose—and incredible views above the tree line. The well-marked loop trail is especially popular for acclimating to the Colorado altitude and offers a moderately easy hike with rewarding vistas.
Pika Trail provides a natural escape into the Rockies where dogs are allowed alongside their owners (please note, standard hiking etiquette is to keep your dogs leashed). While there isn’t a fenced or designated dog park area, the trail is perfect for active pups who love to explore. Families will appreciate that the trail is good for kids too, making it a great choice for all ages. For optimal enjoyment, visit from late June onward when snow is less likely to impede the path.
Enjoyed the 10 minutes we got in, it was very snowy and hard to get through the patches without waist deep falls into the snow, we had two dogs who loved it but they were getting stuck we will probably go back and finish at a later date. I would wait until late june for this one
Little escape to the mountain ⛰️
About an hour hiking trip to the peak! The last 10 minutes up the mountain is probably the worst part.. but overall, it is a moderate to easy trail!
Great hike for my Texas coastal plain lungs to acclimate to the altitude. Went in the morning, at around 8:30 on a weekday, didn’t see anyone else, which was nice. Great views and still some wildflowers out.
Great short hike, well marked trail, end of trail stops just above the tree line
This is a great trail and not tough except if you are having altitude issues. You may want your O2. This is a beautiful trail and takes you up to 11,700 ft. You may see elk, moose, bears, and other wildlife. The view is amazing.
