Discover the beauty of the great outdoors with your furry companion at French Pass Trailhead, a pet-friendly trail located near Fairplay, Colorado. This scenic trail offers dog owners a chance to experience lush greenery, wild flowers, and stunning mountain views, making it a favorite spot for dog-friendly hiking in the South Park region. The area is especially vibrant after rainy seasons and brilliant with autumn colors.
French Pass Trailhead is known for its ample parking—suitable even for horse trailers—and well-marked paths that wind along French Creek and rise above the tree line. Although the entrance and trailhead may be challenging to find without a map, and the road leading in can be rough, most hikers find the trails accessible and enjoyable for both kids and pets. Remember to bring bug spray, as mosquitos can be plentiful in summer, and prepare for minor creek water runoff.
The trailhead would have been hard to find without mapping the location first. The trail itself isn’t too challenging. There are a few steep sections, but overall it is a great trail that rises above tree line to the pass. Beautiful colors in the autumn.
Just spectacular! Especially with all the rain we got this year it was all super green!
Road to trailhead is rough. Trail well marked to French creek. Good views.
Great trail with beautiful wild flowers and wild mushrooms. Part of the trail has water runoff from the creek, but nothing terrible. Being bug spray, mosquitoes are out in full force!
Lots of parking and room for horse trailers. Pretty hike along French Creek
