🐾 Kids at the Dog Park: Real Stories, Safety Risks & Smarter Solutions

Mackay Park is a popular community destination in Englewood, New Jersey, featuring amenities such as a large playground with a soft rubber floor, public gym equipment, an ice skating rink, and a community pool. The park is surrounded by pleasant walking trails, benches for resting, and a notable presence of local wildlife, making it ideal for peaceful walks and outdoor recreation.
Though dog policies appear mixed—some signage states dogs must be leashed, while others indicate dogs may not be permitted—many locals have historically walked their dogs here on-leash. Potential visitors should check current park rule signage or with local authorities for the latest dog-related information. Mackay Park is also known for being clean and family-friendly, especially during peak season, with lots of activities for both kids and adults.
Update: im glad the playgrounds are being updated. New public gym equipment and the brick arch has been repaired. I wish the playground had seating and a little bit more shade. No nearby bathrooms so plan for that.
The waiting area is a hot mess. Kids, skaters, moms and snack foods everywhere. There are cubbys for shoes and lockers for valuables(bring quarters for lockers). Public sessions for ice skating is pretty decent. There are resting benches for skaters, and kids seems to really have lots of fun. But there are a lot of kids falling everywhere. For an hr or two of fun, this was worth it. They should really fix the sound system cause it was just spazzing out and very staticky.
This is a nice park, but the workers can’t make up their mind between allowing dogs to walk on leash, and having no dogs at all at the park. I’m a taxpayer of Englewood and I’m disgusted by someone trying to follow me in a red van every time I come to this park, It’s quite uncomfortable as a young female to be followed in a red vehicle during the daytime. I see multiple people walking their dogs in the park, I pick up after my dog and my dog is on leash so I don’t see what the issue is. Seems like something personal, stay away. The sides outside the park say no dogs allowed but then there’s another sign that says keep dogs on leash, which one is it? I’ve been walking my dog here for three years and no one’s ever said anything, up until recently.
Poorly maintained, lots of trash around from geese poop to picnic left overs. Outside of peak hours (10-6 during summer) it will be empty so I wouldn’t recommending going by yourself. Doesn’t allow for dogs which accomplishes nothing keep young professionals out of the neighborhood.
Very pleasant park to enjoy a walk with plenty of benches to rest at. There are deer in the area which keep to themselves so it’s an extra nice touch to an otherwise nice area.
Nice sized playground for the kids. Everything was maintained well and has the soft rubber floor to keep the children safe.
First time coming here. We were delightfully surprised when we saw how beautiful and clean this community pool was. There is a charge for visitors NULL on weekdays and NULL on weekends.
