🐾 Kids at the Dog Park: Real Stories, Safety Risks & Smarter Solutions
If you’ve spent time at an off-leash park, you’ve probably seen it:A parent strolls in with a stroller 🚼 or […]
Located at 5610 Bay St, Emeryville, this dog park stands out for its lush grass surface, fully enclosed space, and well-thought-out amenities for local dog owners. Known as one of the only grassy dog parks in the area, it offers plenty of room for dogs to run, play, and socialize, making it a favorite for Bay Area pet lovers seeking a dog-friendly outing. The park is wheelchair accessible and features convenient parking for easy access.
What sets this dog park apart is its division into two separate gated areas, ideal for keeping small and large dogs apart when needed. The fenced-in design ensures safety for off-leash fun, and the inclusion of agility equipment adds extra excitement. Dog owners will also appreciate the availability of a doggy water fountain and generous seating areas. Note that the park can be muddy after rain due to ongoing irrigation and drainage tweaks, but the community is optimistic that these issues will be resolved as the park matures.
Another update: it’s back open! Hooray!
Update: Sadly, this park has been closed for several months. I’ve stopped by many times and never see it open anymore. There are no signs that indicate when it might re-open. I would suggest trying the Stanford Ave. dog park around the corner.
Original review: My puppy and I love this place!! It’s very well designed. I love that it’s enclosed (that’s helping me teach her skills off leash) and that there are two areas. Since my puppy is little, it’s nice to be able to separate her if the bigger dogs are getting a little rough. I love the agility structures and the green grass. It’s been great for socializing my pup to new things- train and construction noises, people on bikes and one wheels, the bridge, etc. it even has a doggy water fountain. Only docked a star because it is often muddy and they close it to reseed it. Once the water issue is fixed, I’ll have zero complaints!!!
My dog loves the space to do his zoomies in the grass and he loves meeting new friends. When everyone shows up at once it’s a puppy party and the dogs have a good amount of space to chase each other. Love it!
I’m so thankful for a grassy dog park in this area. My dog runs around more and plays much more energetically on grass. We often go to other areas in the Bay Area to find decent ones.
The watering issue seems like a problem that can be easily remedied with some irrigation adjustments. It’s a very new park so some things will need to be figured out.
I love this new park and my dog LIVES for the soft, cool grass. But they have to figure out the irrigation and drainage issue. The swamp forming in the middle is just bad. Another reviewer said the grass is being watered every night, which is probably excessive.
I’d hate to see the grass go, feel pretty sure it can survive if properly cared for. Especially since this park probably won’t be heavily trafficked.
The park is great, two separate gated parks with redundant gates and some agility structures. But the grass was a very bad idea…it gets watered every night so it is already a muddy mess after a week of opening. A lesson learned, don’t put grass in a dog park! It never works out. I suggest wood chips and soon! I cannot wear regular shoes here, have to wear flip flops so I can wash my feet when I leave.
