🐾 How to Handle Aggressive Dogs at the Dog Park – Real Advice from Dog Owners
Visiting the dog park can be a joyful activity for both you and your furry friend—but aggressive encounters can quickly […]
If you’re searching for a dog park in Ely, Nevada, the Ely KOA Journey is a welcoming spot for both two-legged and four-legged travelers. Known for its immaculate bathrooms, shaded grassy tent sites, and friendly staff, this KOA campground provides a unique mix of amenities in a beautiful, relaxing environment. The fenced dog park offers a space for your pets to burn off energy, although owners should note that the area’s ground can be rough and may have stickers that could bother sensitive paws.
Dog owners will appreciate the green shaded areas, clean grounds, and helpful staff, making this a great overnight stay for those visiting the Great Basin area or simply looking for a place where both owner and pet can relax. While the dog park is somewhat basic and could benefit from further upgrades, its presence makes the Ely KOA Journey a prime pet-friendly stop while traveling through Nevada. Restrooms for owners are available onsite, and there are additional amenities like a general store and family-friendly activities to enjoy.
Campground was clean. We had reserved an RV site for our 42′ trailer with slide-outs both sides. The site we originally were booked into, NOT OUR CHOOSING, had a large tree curved into the RV site. This created problems with us either opening our kitchen and living room slides or opening our front door. Staff acted irritated that we requested a new site. They asked us to pull either all the way forward or all the way to the back of the site. I stated the only way we could open all slides and use the front door was to have the trailer half hanging out into the road. They stated I needed to pay more for a “site near the road.” I told them, no, that they had the specs for our trailer when we made the reservation and that they had chosen our site based on those specs.. They said they were “FULL” and they could not move us… but they were not full and there were SO MANY empty sites both days were were there. I asked if they would please remove the tree since they told us the campground was full and they couldn’t move us…but they eventually they did move us to another site. They stated that, “if this doesn’t work for you, you have to pay for a road site.” The site worked fine. However, they stated it was a 65″ site…. WRONG. Our 42″ trailer filled the site from front to back.
Our PAYING guests who were staying with us requested a map of the park to which they were told, “One will be given to the party in the RV.”
We were told not to flush “wipes, paper towels, or TP” as they were on septic.
ALSO- there are SEVERAL residents who live at the park in either RVs or in modulars- we like KOAs because USUALLY they don’t have people living at the park. This was disappointing.
Needless to say, we will not stay here again.
Staff were fantastic. Campground is clean; RV spots are nicely spaced apart; bathrooms were immaculate all day every day; and the evenings were quite. Even got in a little star gazing from an adjacent field one evening. Would recommend and we plan on coming back again!

No rooms were used. The staff was very nice and professional. The facilities were nice. But I’m not too overly impressed with the dirt roads. They could be graded and have dirt suppression compound put down to reduce the dust. The sites are not very level and uneven. I broke nearly every wood block I had trying to get my camper level. The dog park is fenced in but in very rough shape with stickers allowed to grow in there that can (and did) hurt my dogs feet.
I feel that for the fees being charged that the KOA should step it up a little and more the quality up a little bit.

Loved the covered wagon! It was surprisingly roomy and comfortable. There were places to set bags and cooler. The decor was friendly and homey, and the table was nice for working and eating. I liked having a lockable door at night. What a fun experience! The camp showers were very clean, and the grounds had lots to do. What a great KOA, one of the very best!
