Always contact the facility in advance to confirm available services, especially if you’re interested in adoption, surrender, or seeking support with stray or lost dogs in the area.
Stopped by for a visit to see what animals were available for adoption. Upon entering, there were 4-5 staff members behind the front desk who looked at me like I stumbled into the wrong place and were rude when I asked for assistance. Eventually told me I could walk around and see the dogs in cages, they did not have any cats currently housed. Two of the crate with a larger dogs in them looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in a week. Poop smeared EVERYWHERE. Not just a few drops that were walked in and spread by the dog. Some even looked like possibly blood mixed in with the mess. When I started walking around, someone went to clean the cages after I passed it the first time. Not sure if they were already there, or only cleaning because I was there and paying attention. A very sad and scary place to be in the first place for a dog, and the employees of the shelter are doing nothing to make that better. Please please avoid here if trying to surrender a pet.

FIRST OF ALL. The fact there is footage online of this kill shelter with prisoners AGGRESSIVELY ABUSING the animals and MISHANDLING THEM WITH LEASHES / PULLING THEM BY COLLARS is disgusting. Why did this place have cameras, If not to keep the dogs safe? who knows how the cats are treated. Why did prisoners in programs get the ability to work there and treat the animals like they are just bags of bones, NO SYMPATHY JUST PAIN. I cant find any information elsewhere, updating if this is still happening here. These poor animals. And the saddest part? they euthanized the abused animals i saw in the video later this summer (understood, kill shelter. But all the abused animals deserved fosters and more effort by the owners of this place.) An investigation with no news. I hope all the abusing workers or prisoners that were put in this establishment are put in/Back in JAIL. Horrible, cruel people. Do better if youre going to run an animal shelter. What the heck is the point of the shelter if its not a SAFE SHELTER!!

I have had two incidences already regarding stray dogs that were in our neighborhood. Both of these incidences were due to strays coming onto our property and attacking/becoming vicious with my child who is under 6. They did NOTHING. They would drive through our neighborhood so fast you knew they weren’t even looking for the dogs- I had it on footage that they drove right by our house with the dogs on the side of our house but they “didn’t see it” when it’s a clear view to the back yard from the road. Both incidences I had called multiple times (between 10 and 20 times), always getting the same response. “Someone will be out” or even better, no one would pick up the phone. I’ve had to have police come out to take a report for the dogs attacking my child, ambulance to come out to check out their injuries and I have even put myself in danger to tie one up to hold so they would come get it. They never showed, I waited an hour after they closed before releasing the dog because I would be held responsible had I have left it there and it get hurt or die. I now have two more strays running around my yard and neighborhood. I called. No answer. No surprise. This is beyond ridiculous and outrageous. If something happens to my child due to a stray animal that I have called about, Clayton County Animal Control will be held accountable for their lack of action as I would be held accountable if I contained the dog for them to pick up and it gets injured or dies in my “care.” Seeing as they don’t care about the safety of the people, I now no longer care for the safety of these stray dogs that they refuse to do something about. Do better.
