🐾 How to Handle Aggressive Dogs at the Dog Park – Real Advice from Dog Owners
Visiting the dog park can be a joyful activity for both you and your furry friend—but aggressive encounters can quickly […]
Discover Northern Tail Dog Park, a top-rated dog park conveniently located in East Lansing, Michigan. This expansive, well-maintained park offers plenty of open grassy space for dogs to run and socialize off-leash, as well as separate fenced areas for large and small dogs. The park is a favorite among locals for its cleanliness, attentive visitors, and welcoming community of both pets and owners. Pet-friendly paved trails, such as Angel Falls Trail, are nearby for those looking to extend their adventures beyond the fenced park area.
While the park does not offer much natural shade or covered shelters, it provides basic amenities such as water spigots and buckets, waste bags, trash cans, and limited seating. The dog park is free to use, has ample space for playing fetch or frisbee, and allows for safe off-leash play within its fences. Please note that children under 9 are not permitted inside the dog park, and the park is closed during the winter months. Visitors enjoy the friendly atmosphere, the well-kept walking paths, and the easy access from local neighborhoods.
Clean, large dog park that doesn’t get too busy or crowded. Great hours!!

Children under 9 are not allowed at the dog park. There were about 20 people with big dogs and this parent was on their phone, not watching their child for the majority of it. Allowing their child to play with dog toys and not allow the dogs to have them, taunting dogs. Be mindful of your dogs when here; common sense is not so common.

You know, you just can’t go wrong with a dog park like this. It’s free, there’s a lot of space and neighborhoods to walk around to give your dog a break. People are usually attentive. It’s not so big so that people can completely ignore each other. You’re really get to know people, and the dogs do too!

This park is a great place except for two things: 1) No water pump or fountain, and 2) It closes in the winter.
Why does it have to close in the winter? Some dogs LOVE playing in the snow, especially huskies, etc. but they find themselves in a state where snow only happens for a few months a year. They would LOVE to play here in the winter! (my animal companions don’t have thick coats, but still…)
Every other dog park I have been to have fountains or water pumps (well water) and the WATER park (repeat: water. park.) is so close to the dog park, you would think there would be an easy way to get city water to the dog park. The pups are always thirsty and we “owners” can’t seem to bring enough H2O!
I know this park is relatively new and I applaud the city council for creating it in the first place. I have noticed over the months that new sections have been added for smaller animal companions, which is a good idea.
I also think that funding the beautiful dog park, where families, including non-human members of the family, can safely exercise and enjoy the outdoors during COVID, soak up vitamin D, and be a part of the community is a MUCH BETTER WAY TO SPEND OUR TAX DOLLARS than a deer cull – killing deer not because they cause accidents or harm any other life, but because they eat the flower beds of the wealthiest in the city.
It is a shame that would even be considered over something like a beneficial community project like this one.
Thank you!
