Protectors of Animals – Pet-Friendly Rescue & Services in East Hartford, Connecticut

Located at the back of 144 Main St Unit O, Protectors of Animals is a well-known animal rescue and service-oriented spot in East Hartford, Connecticut. This facility is recognized more for its commitment to animal welfare, accessibility, and adoption services rather than as a dedicated dog park. With a fully wheelchair accessible entrance and parking lot, it’s easy for everyone to visit and support their cause. While they primarily focus on pet adoption and animal care, be aware that this is not a traditional dog park with open areas for off-leash or recreational play.

This spot stands out for its strong advocacy for animal health—including spay/neuter programs—as noted by reviewers. They provide services for both cats and dogs, and the friendly staff frequently receives both positive and constructive feedback. While Protectors of Animals is a great resource for adopting and supporting pets in need, it may not offer the typical dog park amenities such as fenced play areas, separate dog zones, or water features. If you are searching for resources, support, or looking to adopt in the East Hartford area, this is a trusted choice for animal lovers and families alike.

I pulled a puppy from an owner death where animal control was going to euthanize due to breed and this rescue refused to service the dog because he wasn’t neutered. Dogs should be at MINIMUM a year old before being neutered for health and growth purposes. As a certified professional dog trainer and advocate for dogs I wouldn’t recommend these people to anybody. Not to mention their absolutely nasty attitude towards people who actually have knowledge in these areas. The lady I spoke to was very angry and nasty when she realized she couldn’t out smart me. Pathetic.

Denied my wife’s application because she marked “not sure” next to “would you consider declawing” we are new solo pet owners are trying to do everything right and instead of trying to educate us, they just decided to deny us right away. We didn’t even know what “declawing” entailed hence why we put unsure. instead of educating us we were talked down to and rudely declined.
