Schor is a scenic conservation area located in East Chatham, New York. Ideal for dog owners seeking pet-friendly trails and peaceful natural surroundings, the park features a tranquil pond, multiple walking and hiking loops, and a beautiful summit viewpoint. Dog owners and their furry friends will enjoy the easy trails, overlook points for sunrises, and the calming ambiance of the park, often described as a local ‘Zen place’.
The park offers plenty of parking on a gravel road and has a gazebo with picnic tables near the lake, making it suitable for casual outings with dogs. With its dog-friendly hiking opportunities, serene water views, and accessible picnic area, Schor Conservation Area is a wonderful destination for active dogs and their owners in Columbia County.
plenty of parking its on a gravel road. you can view the pond and then you got that amazing summit view and a bit of a kick to get up it. I hate how the red fox run loop trail is closed be warned its closed due to work and logging sadly. you can do detour and yes go around the pond but that is all sadly. if your driving the distance like I did not sure its worth that trip with the trail being closed in places
Beautiful conservation area with a small lake and multiple walking trails. They have a gazebo with tables for picnicking by the lake. Definitely recommend.
Great trails! My boys and I go jogging here and there are nice loops, beautiful vistas, and easy trails. The pond is so peaceful, and great for skipping rocks.
Nice little park. A few trees around the overlooked could do with a cutting back so you could see more. The overlook points East so sunrises are better than sunsets.
Few different trails. Pavilion with picnic tables next to the pond. Arrived around 11:30 on a Sunday, only one other car in the parking lot, which was nice. Started on Green Trail, which was easy, then went on Red Trail to get to Summit. Parts of that trail were somewhat steep. It was not a bad view at the top, but I was hoping for more. Nice area, though.
Update: After a few years of hiking here, if it has become one of my favorite conservation areas in Columbia County. Very peaceful here. It’s my Zen place.
