My wiener dog was swept away in the current here. Some muscle bound freak had to save my girl for me. I was then inclined to makeout with him. I would do anything for my girl❤️ I go to this beach at least once a month now… looking for seashells… while looking for him!
Honeymoon Island is beautiful and affordable, but our experience at the pet beach was less than ideal. Unlike the main beach, the pet beach is full of rocks. Also, the trail to the beach is overgrown and I had to stop every few steps to pick sandspurs out of my poor dog’s paws. I ended up carrying her most of the way back to my car only to discover that the wash station is out of order. Definitely not the fun little adventure I was hoping for.
This is our favorite pet beach in the area! Wish the area had a bit less rocks at water entry (like if part of the “no pet” area was for pets too would be great for my feet) but other than that its wonderful, and so beautiful. Everyone is kind & most people follow the rules & the area (& water) is clean. The showers don’t work here anymore since a hurricane awhile back but I THINK they’re trying to fix now.
No question why this is the most-visited state park in Florida. It’s affordable, peaceful, well-maintained, protected, and teeming with wildlife. Bring sunscreen and bring bug spray. There is zero shade and A LOT of mosquitos. If you’re lucky enough to see the beautiful burrowing tortoises, remember to keep a respectful distance. Bathrooms and water fountains can be found at the bath houses. Plenty of parking. Dog beach is a great asset, although I wish the state would re-connect the dog wash station which has been without water since Hurricane Helene (Sept 2024).
Beautiful dog beach. My dog didn’t care for the Florida heat, I understand because of his breed. We did get eaten up by sand fleas from this beach. Watch out for rattlesnakes along the paths. But it’s definitely a beautiful beach/island.
