Located in a quiet residential neighborhood, Rio San Gabriel Park offers a local option for pet owners looking for a convenient dog park in Downey, California. This park features separate areas for small and large dog breeds, giving both tiny and big pups a chance to play safely. While the dog park is on the smaller side and some reviews mention maintenance concerns, it is appreciated by locals for its peaceful mornings and community feel. The larger park also includes sports fields, a kid’s playground, and open grassy areas to enjoy with the family.
Convenience is key at this location, with multiple amenities like parking and seating for visitors. However, parking can be limited, and you should watch out for gopher holes in the grass. While there are no specific details about pet-friendly trails or agility equipment, Rio San Gabriel Park promises a dog-friendly environment ideal for quick play sessions, especially in the early hours when the crowds are thin.
Very nice park, a hidden gem, actually. Would have given 5 stars, couldn’t due to the goofer holes in the grass.
It made walking difficult and dangerous. You could twist an ankle. Again, it’s a very nice small park in a residential neighborhood.

Dog park is small and poorly maintained.
Great place for local baseball and football teams to train, apparently. Parking is sometimes difficult. Watch your step on the grass. There are gopher holes everywhere.

I don’t normally rate parks but this one is really bad. Don’t waste your time. It’s missing slides and plywood was placed where the slides used to be. The problem is the wood isn’t sanded down you may get a splinter. Unfortunately people have also written on the wood and plastic. The whole place needs to be updated.
