Canal Lands Park

Canal Lands Park offers a peaceful and scenic natural setting for hiking and dog walking along the towpath trail by the river. It features wheelchair accessible entrances and parking, picnic tables, benches along the trails, and spacious parking with a port-a-potty restroom. The trail passes through scenic river views and swampland, making it great for a challenging nature hike and a good stop along the towpath system. Visitors should be prepared for some trail maintenance issues and mosquitoes during summer months.

Trail is littered with fall trees and deadwood.
6-mile hike normally takes 2hrs…..add another hour to your journey for clearing obstacles
A good stop along the towpath trail, much better than the state route 800 trailhead.
The parking is spacious and nice, and has a small port-a-potty for restrooms.
The trails are needing some maintenance. Bridges are slippery in spots. Being part of the towpath system, there are numerous gaps in the trail where you have to get on the roadway.
It was a peaceful but challenging walk.
Very nice walking trails and bike trails! Very peaceful walking down by the river. There are a few benches along the path in case you would like to take a break, maybe one every mile. I just did the 6 mile walk from route 82 to route 800, so not sure how the rest of the trail is. Pretty cool scenery….you have the river on your left, and swampland and black water on your right. Saw a deer and many squirrels. Unfortunately, the mosquitoes were horrendous! It was like walking through a cloud of them almost the entire trail. So don’t forget your bug spray if you come out this way for some relaxation. Very peaceful place!
