If you’re searching for a spacious dog park in Dove Creek, Colorado with natural beauty and freedom for your pup, Dove Creek Camp Spot is a must-visit. This unique location offers vast open fields, a nearby creek perfect for cooling off, and scenic pet-friendly trails—making it an ideal stop for road-trippers and locals alike. The area is mostly unkept and rustic, which complements the stunning Southwest Colorado surroundings and lets dogs romp in a natural setting. With an off-leash policy and open access to walking paths and water, your pets will enjoy plenty of freedom and adventure here.
Visitors love the camp spot for its dog-friendly amenities such as agility equipment, an obstacle course, seating areas, available poop bags, and trash bins. There’s plenty of shade from natural tree cover, and the open space is better suited for dogs with good recall, as the fields are not securely fenced. Whether you’re traveling along I-70 or seeking dog-friendly hiking and camping close to nature, Dove Creek Camp Spot serves as a perfect getaway for the whole family—human and canine alike.
This place was a life saver. We had been driving for a while And needed a stop. They had great camp spots . And basic toilet bathrooms. Would definitely recommend for a pot stop
Not recommended for large trailers. Road is steep- used 4 low to get our trailer down, only 1 or 2 spots to fit. Nearest cellphone service is a 5 to 10 minute drive out of the canyon. Creek runs nearby.
This place gets 5 stars because it is a paradise like no other. However, the Bureau of Land Management gets no stars at all! My family has been camping in this canyon for over 40 years. We have brought hundreds of people from all over and in turn brought quite a bit of money to the town of Dove Creek. Last year the BLM decided to “organize” the campground, effectively cutting off many perfect spots for families (especially large ones) to camp with each other. They have placed rules on the campground that don’t allow more than two tents per camp spot, two vehicles, or one vehicle and a trailer, though no trailers can actually fit anymore. Because trailers can no longer go down there, there are many members of our group that can not camp with us. Instead, they have to camp down the road where there is no shade. I’m highly disappointed in this, as is my whole group that shows up every single Fourth of July. Why fix what isn’t broken? The decisions to make these changes were clearly made by somebody who has not spent much time camping down there.
Beautiful place for camping! Highly recommend! No cell service which is nice to get away and it’s super easy to find 😊
Straight dope:
This was in the top five spots I have ever camped. Simply perfect. Go. Now.
