Dexter City Park offers a welcoming, small-town experience with a range of amenities that make it an excellent stop for families and pet owners traveling through Dexter, Iowa. The park features pet-friendly walking trails, picnic areas (including covered picnic tables), public restrooms (open seasonally), and a playground that is perfect for kids of all ages. Beautifully maintained grounds, wheelchair accessibility, and multiple recreational spots—such as a frisbee golf course and outdoor workout stations—make this community park stand out.
Dog owners will appreciate that well-behaved dogs are allowed throughout the park (on-leash). While there is not a dedicated or fenced dog area, the pet-friendly trails and open grassy spaces give you and your pup plenty of room to stretch your legs. Whether you’re stopping during a road trip or looking for a day out in Dexter, this park is a great spot for dog lovers and families alike. Enjoy shaded areas, clean picnic spots, and the peaceful charms of rural Iowa at Dexter City Park.
We (my wife and 2 year old daughter) stopped at Dexter City Park to stretch our legs during a long car ride. Nice little small town park. The bathrooms were not available (due to Covid I’m sure). There is a disc golf course and a walking trail. Neither of which I can elaborate on. There is a playground with swings for little and big kids, a climbing apparatus with some slides and a couple “dangerous” features. An old school merry go round and jungle gym. Also there is a little pavlovian with picnic tables. A nice little slice of Iowa life.
What an awesome little treasure!! We ended up here quite by accident, and we were so grateful that we did!! We were driving along the I80 when we stumbled upon this. We enjoyed the restrooms (though the old, historic looking ones were locked, we located newer ones that were open) and then had a peaceful grilled supper at the covered picnic tables. We even communed with the nearby cows…
Such a cute small town park! Lots of amenities at this park for the kiddos to find something they like. There are walk trails for riding their bikes, stationary work out areas, swings, see-saws, slides, climbing things and a clean picnic area with shade!
My neighbor girls love this park, theres also outside workout stations with instructions if your into that kind of thing
This is a hidden gem! It has a sidewalk surrounding the park with fun exercise stations/activities along it. My oldest and I had fun doing each one. It has plenty of activities and play equipment to keep kids of all ages busy for hours! It also features a Frisbee gold course. Very well taken care of as well. There is a covered picnic area and modern toilets for summer months. We will be going back very soon!
