Padgett Park Natural Area (DeWitt Charter Township)

Padgett Park Natural Area is a spacious 62-acre park featuring a natural fenced dog park, a mile-long trail with natural dirt trails and some paved segments surrounded by woods, and good accessibility including wheelchair-friendly entrances and parking. It’s a welcoming place for dogs to roam freely in the enclosed dog park or be leashed on scenic hiking trails. Amenities include public restrooms and a kid-friendly environment. The park provides a peaceful experience with squirrels, chipmunks, and bird songs in a natural setting, though trails may be a bit confusing in places.

Nice neighborhood Park. Trails are marked with arrows and maps at major intersections. Photographers need to get creative here as there is no wetlands, just trees. One area goes through an old growth Black Cherry grove which is different.
Nice paved trail with a lot of dirt trails through the woods. Beautiful setting and easy access from Schavey or Clark Road.
Nice dog park. Big area.

Fenced and natural trails!
Previous to this visit today I was over at Granger Park which bans dogs on their walking trails. Shame! Meanwhile, back at Padgett Park my dog romped freely in the enclosed dog park for nearly an hour. We left when some big dogs showed up. I’m sure they are nice but my dog is kinda unpredictable. So I switched to hiking some of the trails where leashed dogs are welcome. Nice spring day. Birds singing. Other hikers. Other dogs on leashes. Very nice day!
This was the first time my husband and I walked in Padgett Park. It’s a mile trail and is nice to walk. The park itself is 62 acres with a few different trails. There are not really animals to spy. A few squirrels and chipmunks are running. The trails are not well marked. It’s easy to get turned around while walking. There is an orange trail that we will go back to try. There are also restrooms at the front of the park. Across from the trails is a fenced dog park.
