I’ve enjoyed going to this park for the past couple of weeks. It’s beautiful, spacious, and favorite for many birders. Thanks to Leonard Weber, I’ve been able to see so many things I wouldn’t have been able to notice on my own, and I’ve learned so much about bird nesting habits! It’s also a nice place to walk your dog, but please pick up after them! The giant weaved wooden statues are also pretty cool to see. Highly recommend!
I love this park. Made many visits this fall and winter. Some people say there are “shady” people, but every time I am there, it seems really tame. Some folks are parked and enjoying a quiet peaceful smoke in their cars. If some are cruising or doing nefarious things in their vehicles, but that doesn’t bother me as it doesn’t interrupt the peace at the park. Perhaps it’s more live in the summer months. It’s almost always quiet and a lovely time when I visit. Lots of deer and peaceful trails. I wish they would add dog bags and a few more trash cans long the river trail. It would be great to add a fenced in area for the pups to play off leash, but there is already a lot of space to run and play. There is a skate park, playground, beautiful sculpture, baseball field, and lots of picnic shelters! My family enjoys this rare access to nature within the city limits.
Since I moved to Detroit I’ve been looking for a good nature trail in the city. This is the best I’ve encountered yet. I plan to go back and hike the whole thing.
Nice little urban park, spotted a lot of wildflowers. Paved trail makes for a good open walk. Hiking trail is short but by the river and pretty. A 1 mile paved two way trail along the loop road with plenty of parking will make for a nice run. Park is by major roads so the hiking won’t necessarily be quiet. We didn’t spot any fish in the rouge river so not sure about fishing prospects but there’s a bridge over the river.
I love taking my small dog Luna to this park. She love to run along the trails. It’s literally perfect.!!! They have trails all around and it’s super spacious for her to run around. We run into other small dogs from time to time but overall it’s a great place to walk and have some fun with your pup. Plenty of parking, and the atmosphere is always friendly.
