Located in a quiet DeKalb neighborhood near Northern Illinois University, Prather Park is a serene, pet-friendly park perfect for dog owners seeking a peaceful outdoor space. While not a dedicated dog park, it features paved walking paths, shady trees, and plenty of open space for walking your dogs on-leash. The park is known for its calm atmosphere, beautiful gardens, and unique stone features, making it a great spot for relaxing strolls or a quick stop with your four-legged friend.
Prather Park also offers amenities for families, with a well-kept playground, benches, picnic tables, a gazebo, basketball court, and concrete game tables for foosball, bag toss, and even table tennis. The walking paths connect to local trails, making it ideal for those seeking dog-friendly hiking in DeKalb. Although parking is somewhat limited, it’s conveniently situated close to the university and residential areas.
It’s fun park to play at my kid loves it
We enjoy this playground! Has always been quiet when we have been there. There’s a few picnic tables and a port a potty. Kids love the double slide and climbing structures.
Nice little park. Parking is close by but its next to a Baseball field. There is a fantastic tree for afternoon shade.
Great playground! Perfect size and great layout. One of the best in town.
This is a small neighborhood park. It’s perfect if you have small children, there is a beautiful playground with a picknick table next to it. They also have a beautiful perfectly well kept baseball field. This is not a park for planning family picnics or parties, there just isn’t that kind of room. More of a private play date with the kids or for baseball teams.
