Van Houten Park is a vibrant community spot in Dearborn Heights, offering a range of amenities for both families and their furry friends. Known for its wheelchair accessibility, picnic tables, and public restroom, this park appeals to all visitors seeking a comfortable and enjoyable outdoor experience. While dogs are welcome at Van Houten Park, it is important to note that it is primarily a multi-use park rather than a dedicated dog park. There is plenty of green space for leashed walks and play, making it a great spot for dog owners seeking dog-friendly trails or pet-friendly recreation areas in Dearborn Heights.
Families will appreciate amenities like an updated playground, splash pad, hockey rink, basketball court, baseball diamond, and pavilions fit for gatherings or birthday celebrations. The park is also valued for its accessibility and clean, newly renovated play spaces—perfect for kids and group events. However, visitors may want to check on current park conditions, as some reviews note that maintenance can vary.
First of all, filthy. Needs to be updated and upgraded badly. Grass needs to be cut. Visitors need to make their children clean up their trash. It’s a very cool structure it’s a shame that it’s in such poor condition.
Van houten park is an awesome park. We love going there. There’s so much to do there. The boys love the hockey rink, basketball court, the splash pad and the play structure. Our church has an inner city kid’s program that also frequently uses the awesome splash pad and play structure. There’s also a baseball diamond. My family loves this place so much that we even rented the pavilion and had our wedding reception here.
I definitely enjoyed this park with ny kids. They loved it. It seems pretty new but I’m not sure if that’s the same park but I do remember goin last year and it being closed and it looks pretty new to me. But I love it. This is our park now our go to spot!!
Nice renovation. Kids had lots of fun
I brought my kids (ages 7, 8, 10) here and they really enjoyed it. The new play structure was really nice, and they rolled down the big pipe that has turf on it like it was a hill several times. I was disappointed the big wooden structure in all the photos wad gone, but the new playground is really nice.
There is a bathroom building (still locked for winter when we were there) and with the splash pad, picnic areas, and the nice playground, we’ll be back in warmer weather.
