If you’re searching for a peaceful dog park in De Tour Village with beautiful views and easy hikes, Detour Peninsula Nature Preserve is an excellent spot. Known for its pet-friendly trails and quiet, natural atmosphere, this park welcomes visitors and their furry friends for scenic walks along Lake Huron. The main trail is well-groomed and easy to follow, making it perfect for all fitness levels, and there are side trails leading to rocky beaches where you and your dog can enjoy the water views.
This preserve is great for both dog owners and families with kids—its kid-friendly hikes and lovely scenery make it a versatile choice for a day out. While there are no fenced or dedicated dog play areas, the park’s natural setting and pet-friendly trails provide a relaxed environment for leashed explorations. The beaches on either side of the peninsula offer unique vantage points of Lake Huron, ideal for a short adventure or a leisurely stroll with your pup.
Wonderful little gem for a quiet walk and access two beaches.
Easy way to see Lake Huron on either side of the peninsula. Once you pass the two side trails that lead to the beaches, there is no point to continue. After about a mile, you’ll just come to a chained off road with a no trespassing sign.
If your in the area worth stopping and taking the short hike. Walk down a gated dirt road, couple of side trails to the water. Walking to the both side trails and back was an easy 1 mile.
Definitely worth stopping! Right outside of Detour. The trail is very nicely groomed and easy to walk. On the lefthand side of the trail is a path to the beach with great views. The beach is very rocky, so make sure you have shoes with good grip.
Nice little place to see the water and beach. Scenery is beautiful. The walk all the way back was farther than we thought. We took the 2 side trails to see either side, but it was worth the trip.
