FAQ for Pennsylvania SPCA Central PA Center in Danville in Danville Pennsylvania:
The staff were all friendly and informative, which made adopting a cat an enjoyable experience. The facility was clean and organized. My daughter even received a care package for her kitten before leaving. The adoption fee was NULL.00 for kittens, and NULL or NULL for a cat 1 year or older, which is a decent price knowing the animal has had shots (depending on it’s age), was spayed/neutered, and has a clean bill of health. My daughter was extremely happy with her Leonardo (Leo for short, or Gremlin when he’s being mischievous). He has adjusted well to his new home and just loves getting into trouble. He is a wonderful addition to our family!
Update:Changing from 1 star to 3 stars. The management team sent over an email and apologized multiple times for our experience and said they would do a better job of training the staff. I was reassuring that leadership here is invested in creating a positive experience for all visitors.Original Review:Such a disappointing experience here. We have family nearby and are moving back to the area soon and have started our journey of learning the local shelters. We currently foster dogs at another SPCA and thought it would be great to learn more about the PSPCA Danville Center. We drove from about an hour away and arrived right when the shelter opened. We looked at the website ahead of time and knew that no appointment was needed.Upon arrival the staff asked what we were interested in seeing and we mentioned we’d like to see the available dogs. Unfortunately, they no longer allow people to walk around and view each dog (said it was too stressful for the dogs), however they had a binder of names and black and white photos to look through. We scanned through the binder and decided to fill out the application to view a dog, although it was really hard to pick since no details about the dog’s personality were included. We handed in our application, however the staff turned us away since they said we currently live out of state and could not run a background check. We mentioned that we didn’t plan to adopt that day, but did want to go through the experience of meeting a dog if possible. They said no and we left feeling very frustrated, especially since we drove out of the way to visit. If the shelter is only open to PA residents, they should mention that on their website or social media.
Adopted a little 2 month old black and white kitten, the experience was wonderful and the process was easy! 10/10 They gave us a small bag of food and wet food to take home too, very nice people.
Very nice staff. They get quite busy and if youre surrendering an animal i suggest you call and make an appointment. I adopted a kitten from here. Very quick, clean operation. Got a goodie bag to go home with my kitty with food and toys. Animals all looked very well kept and all records up to date.
