The south fork of the catawba is a great place to paddle. Follow the river through downtown Cranerton, around goat Island and up to Belmont. Beautiful quiet section without motorboats! That’s a huge plus for kayakers. Only issue is there’s not a great put in. I use the park, do-able if muddy. They have “kayak ramps” but they don’t work as far as I can tell, too steep and trecherous ¿stairs?! down to the river. Bad infrastructure but good place for a quiet paddle with lots of wildlife, herons, egrets, king fishers , geese with chick’s, muskrats… and a stop for lunch downtown!

On our way to the trail, there were signs displayed to let us know our location. I must say this trail was very intimate with a small pier in front of the parking spaces. The trail is paved and perfect for beginners. We walked it a few times to get in 4.46 miles. I also saw someone fishing, too.
Nice place for a casual walk near the river. Part od the Carolina Thread Trail, this trail sits in Cramerton. The parking lot is along the trail. One end leads to a basketball court. The other end is a circular trail with a path leading to railroad bridge and river’s edge. The field surrounded by the trail is large and open. The trail runs right by a neighborhood. There are also a couple of docks, including a little launch area.
