Hudson Highlands Gateway Park is a definite hidden gem here in our little hotbed of local trails. No one is EVER on it, which is great for the dog, and it offers great diversity of difficulty and terrain type across its various trails. We live like five minutes away, so it’s easily our most-frequented network of trails, and I can’t recommend it enough.

Overall a nice diversion from the nearby state parks and a good place to get lost in the woods for a bit. More of a local’s area. There are some scenic spots to enjoy. Expect lots of little ups and downs and not many flats. If it’s still there an interesting artifact is the overgrown and abandoned DEC trail registry at the trailhead with entries going back several years to a time where DEC patrolled this park (it appears to be the town of Cortlandt now). The entrance that I know of is off of Sprout Brook Road, so not exactly where Google showed it.
