We were backpacking through Connecticut on the Mohawk Trail, from the Appalachian Trail, and this nice little motel was right on the way. We saw good reviews on line, and decided to give it a shot.
The owner was very friendly and hospitable, the rooms clean and comfortable. They are very helpful to hikers and appreciate what we do. He was gracious enough to help me with parking for a week, and he gave me a beer as we discussed my trip. A very nice experience!

Made the reservation online. When we showed up, was told the reservation was cancelled because the online company was “slow to pay”. Was told I had to pay again. I did, and disputed the charge since I had all the paperwork from the first reservation. Also was told she had called and talked to me a week prior, to which I explained that I would not have driven 3 hours to a non existent reservation!!!! Was told she would assist in getting the refund. Needless to say once I paid, she was a ghost. There were 2 other couples at the party staying there that she did the same thing to. Room wasn’t bad, very small but ok. Except for the choking scent of cinnamon raisin cookies. It took a while to find the plug in that was wide open. Shut that down quick. Wouldn’t stay there again seeing as theres a lot of nice fields to stay in, lol.

We stayed one night at Hitching Post Country Motel while passing through the area with our dog. Room was small but clean and comfortable and the bathroom was fine. WiFi worked in the evening but was out in the morning. The location is nice, very close to Kent Falls and the covered bridge. There was country store next door to get breakfast from. Nothing fancy here, but it was a dog friendly room and fine for one night. Wouldn’t want to stay here for an extended time.

Upon arrival, the shower had not been cleaned and still had the previous guest’s hair everywhere. I did not sleep under the blankets because I wasn’t sure they had been changed. On our second night, we opened the microwave to heat something up and discovered a moldy piece of very old pizza. The mini fridge had not been cleaned. Room did not have coffee maker, iron, hair dryer, or similar amenities normally provided.

The motel has the bare minimum that you need, but it is clean and the only choice in the area. The room has AC, fridge, TV, microwave. There is no way to get coffee at the motel, but the West Cornwall Market has great breakfasts just a 5 minute walk away. If you need coffee before 8 AM, the Citgo Station has the best fresh ground coffee in the area , 10 minute walk.
