Located in Commack, New York, Hoyt Farm Nature Preserve is a family-friendly destination offering a serene and scenic experience for visitors of all ages—including pet owners. Known for its clean and well-maintained grounds, this park features extensive nature trails that are perfect for dog-friendly hiking, as well as shaded picnic areas, a nature center, a small farm, and a modern playground. The park is a local favorite for outings, with plenty of amenities and activities available.
Dog owners can enjoy pet-friendly trails throughout the preserve. While Hoyt Farm is not a dedicated, fenced dog park, its walking paths are welcoming to leashed dogs and provide lots of open space and fresh air. Please note parking is primarily for Smithtown residents, though some street parking is available nearby for other guests. Families will also appreciate the picnic facilities and children’s playground, making this a great all-in-one spot for a day outside with both kids and pets.
Beautiful park with nature trails, farm animals, playground, orchard and nature center. Most controversial issue associated with the park is related to its parking being restricted only to Smithtown residents. However you can legally park in about two blocks from park’s entrance (that’s where signs prohibiting street parking finally disappear) and be in the park in less than 5 mins. It would be fairer to allow fee-based parking to non-residents. This issue aside, this park is one of the best of its kind in Long Island.
Really nice park with lots to offer for kids and family. We went in fall so things at the farm were slow, but it was fun for the kids to see the animals and walk on the nature trail. The new playground is fantastic as is the picnic area that was recently rebuilt. check it out!!
The farm section is smaller than I thought. I would have loved for my kids to have been able to feed the animals but I understand their reasoning as to why. The playground is pretty decent. The splash park part was closed so we didn’t get to experience it, maybe we’ll come back when it’s a little warmer outside.
Finally found a park to take my grandson that is clean and safe with many activities. Love this place.
Absolutely great shady place for kids and family. Picnic and cool off this hot summer !
Bring apples to feed animals.
Note: Only for Smithtown Residents.
