Page Ellington Park Dog Park is a spacious, well-loved destination for pet owners looking for a dog park in Columbia, SC. This fenced, off-leash area offers pups ample room to run, play, and make new friends, all in a relaxed and pet-friendly environment. The park is popular for its clean woodchip ground cover, shady spots, and open spaces. There’s plenty of room for both dogs and owners to enjoy, making it a favorite spot for locals looking for dog-friendly activities and socialization opportunities.
Amenity highlights include waste stations with poop bags, water fountains (though occasionally under repair), and a variety of dog toys provided by friendly regulars. Owners will appreciate the shady areas, seating, and easy access for wheelchair users in the parking lot. While it can get busy at peak times, most visitors find the park welcoming and well-maintained—though after rain, watch out for the beloved mud hole that many enthusiastic dogs enjoy!
Clean water, lots of shade and open space to run. The wood chips look clean and it looks like people do clean up after their dogs. Supplies are available for picking up the poo. Including a scooper. There is also a basket full of tennis balls, and some other dog toys such as ropes and other chewables. Friendly people as well as fun friendly dogs. My baby had an absolute blast, and when I tried to leave she begged to go back, she was already wore out, and still stayed another hour and had tons and tons of fun.
Great big fenced park. It gets packed at times. Lots of friendly people with their dogs enjoying time outdoors. A puddle of mud from time to time after rain. It’s free and decently maintained.
I’ve been going to this park for about a year now and it’s a very sufficient use of our tax dollars. I am grateful for the city to provide a place like this especially living in a small place so it allows my friend to stretch his legs and socialize with the pack. I do wish they would fill in that dreadful mud hole although I have seen a few dogs really enjoy wallowing in it having a good time. Only other complaint is that one of the side gates needs to be repaired. My dog was able to easily push through it one day and escape the park when he saw another dog. It’s my responsibility to train with my dog to make him obey my commands to come back, BUT I should also be able to presume that a dog park is a secure place that he won’t escape.
Huge dog park, lots of area for the pups to run around. Relatively well taken care of, I did see a few bricks here and there which could be a bad combination with dogs running at full speed. There is also a mud pit in the middle which the dogs love, so fair warning, you and the dogs will be dirty.
Update: Looks like one of the water fountains has been fixed. The one that has been broken for over a year is still not fixed.
This park has so much potential, especially for dog owners. It’s one of the better free places in the area to let your dog off-leash and enjoy some open space without worry. While we haven’t used the fenced dog area in nearly a year, we often spend time in the surrounding grassy park and walking trail, which are spacious and relaxing.
That said, there are a few areas that need attention. The trash hasn’t been picked up in some time, and both water fountains are out of service—one has been broken for over a year, and the other is heading in that direction.
Considering this is a city park, with surrounding areas undergoing renovations, it would be great to see some of that effort put into improving the dog park. Whether it’s fixing the existing one or adding another smaller fenced area on the opposite side of the park, it would help reduce crowding and enhance the experience for everyone. More dog-friendly spaces like this are needed, and with a little care, this one could really shine.
