If you’re looking for a vibrant dog park in Colorado Springs, Memorial Park is a must-visit. This expansive urban park offers pet-friendly trails and beautiful open spaces, making it perfect for walks with your four-legged friends any time of year. Enjoy scenic views of Pikes Peak while strolling by Prospect Lake or relaxing in the picnic areas, and take advantage of the paved trails and numerous recreation opportunities nearby. While not a dedicated off-leash dog facility, Memorial Park’s welcoming environment and spacious grounds make it a favorite for dog owners and outdoor enthusiasts alike.
Memorial Park is known for its wide array of amenities, including picnic spots, a playground for kids, sports courts, and unique attractions like the velodrome and skatepark. The park is free to access, features plenty of parking, and is open year-round. Seasonal events such as the Colorado Springs Labor Day Lift Off create a fun, festive atmosphere for locals and visitors. Whether you’re jogging, enjoying a dog-friendly hike, or simply unwinding, Memorial Park offers something for everyone in the heart of Colorado Springs.
A fantastic urban park located in the heart of Colorado springs.
Prospect Lake, a fitness trail around the lake, fishing, nice playgrounds, baseball fields, tennis courts and pickleball courts, basketball courts, picnic areas and more!
Nice park. the new installation Veterans Memorial plays music at different times of the day.
Haven’t swam here yet. Plenty of parking. Everything is kept nice except the porta potties…they need more frequent servicing & the servicing they do receive is sub par. In the evenings as the sun gets low on the horizon, teenagers use this as their hang out spot to drink, smoke Mary Jane, & do doughnuts in the parking lots, especially the dirt parking lot. Not every night, but enough. Some homeless wander through. Some delivery people take breaks here. Pretty safe, I’d be more worried about Karen than the homeless.
Some visitors think they can car/van camp in one of the many parking lots. The cops come through & take care of that every now & again. The younger crowd really seem to enjoy the skate ramps. If you’re new to Colorado, keep in mind that the temperature doesn’t seem to include the intense uv rays from being this far above sea level, & the air is extremely dry, & the air is thinner than you realize, & it’s expensive here & not at all friendly to visitors who cannot afford a hotel. If you’re traveling really cheap, Wyoming might be a better choice.
There are a lot of different sports that are played here. There is also an ice rink. There wasn’t anything for the Fourth of July, but in the fall they do a hot air balloon glow event. There was also a car show here. Not sure why because there really isn’t big enough parking lots for a car show. There might be things other times of the year that I haven’t experienced yet.
There’s no place in Colorado Springs quite like Memorial Park, a true local gem with something for everyone. From fishing at Prospect Lake to walks through the Veterans Memorial and Peace Officers’ Memorial. This park offers both recreation and reflection.
Each Labor Day weekend, Memorial Park transforms into the heart of the city with the Colorado Springs Labor Day Lift Off, a beloved tradition featuring dozens of hot air balloons rising over the lake at sunrise. The balloon glow at night is absolutely magical, with colorful balloons lighting up the sky against the backdrop of Pikes Peak.
Whether you’re paddleboarding on the lake, honoring fallen firefighters and veterans, or just enjoying the views and geese, this park is a year-round favorite. *Bonus points for the velodrome—one of the few in the country, which brings a unique and energetic vibe to the area.
Scenic, and rich with local history and tradition.
Nice open space to have a little picnic, a playground, a trail around the lake, people out fishing (although the water is gross, I wouldn’t plan on eating anything you catch lol) beautiful view of pikes peak! I love taking my dog here anytime of year.
I really like this park — it’s big, always lively, clean, and offers a lot to do. You can go kayaking and paddle boarding, and it has tons of activities. There are tennis courts, a skatepark, a soccer area — it really has everything. It’s also a great spot for running if you’re into that.
