John “Prairie Dog” O’Byrne Park – Not a Dog Park, but a Local Gathering Spot

If you’re searching for a dog park in Colorado Springs, Colorado, it’s important to know that John “Prairie Dog” O’Byrne Park is primarily a neighborhood park and not an official dog park or designated off-leash area. This compact, centrally-located park offers open green space, urban character, and a playground, making it a local hangout for families and high schoolers. Visitors often mention the charm of watching squirrels and the recent improvements in cleanliness, specifically around the stream area.

Pet owners should note there are no dedicated dog park amenities such as fenced or double-gated areas, dog-specific water fountains, or agility equipment. Local neighborhood park where high schoolers fight, people can ‘park’, and there’s a playground too. They have cleaned it up quite a bit in the last 6 years but some things never change. Definitely less trash in the stream.

Maybe I was there at the wrong time, but no dogs and sketchy people hanging out.

Just an ok park. Needs a little clean up.

I was looking for dog parks in the area.. this was not a dog park, so we didn’t stay but it seemed like a decent small park. We did like seeing the little squirrels!
