Roadside Park in Coloma is a charming stop along the Blue Star Highway, offering a dog-friendly public beach right on the shores of Lake Michigan. While not a traditional fenced dog park, this spot is known for its clean sandy beach, beautiful lake views, and secluded atmosphere, making it a favorite for pet owners exploring Southwest Michigan or those seeking a pet-friendly outing. Enjoy the pet-friendly trails—a short sandy walk down a dune leads directly to the clean, scenic waterfront where leashed dogs are welcome to join in the fun.
The park is equipped with ample parking, picnic tables, trash cans, and portable restrooms, offering convenience for families and travelers. Though the park’s size is modest and beach access is bordered by private property, visitors regularly note its cleanliness and the respectful community atmosphere. While your dog will need to stay leashed, Roadside Park is a must-see spot for those looking for a peaceful escape or a pitstop to stretch your dog’s legs while enjoying one of the prettiest views in the Coloma area.
Stopped here on my way to Ann Arbor to see Lake Michigan and loved it. The beach and water was incredibly clean. The actual area is small but that is to be expected from a roadside park.
Nice small public beach on Lake Michigan. Tons of parking available with a 3 minute sandy walk to the beach. There are signs marking where private property begins on the beach, so space is limited but worth it. Went on a Friday and had maybe 10 other parties come and go over several hours.
Breathtaking! Lovely bench on the staircase landing allowed us to enjoy without having any chairs with us! Definitely worth the NULL fee. Porta potties onsite and trash cans. Picnic table available near the parking lot.
Wonderful, secluded beach. There is maybe an 1/8th mile walk down a dune to the beach. Sand was clean as well. Overall great spot.
Lovely little beach right on the highway. Access is a sandy trail down (and back up!) the dune. There isn’t a lot of public beach as it is tucked in the middle of private properties.
Dogs on leashes are allowed. It seems folks actually clean up after themselves as we saw no litter on the beach or trail.
You can tell it is popular as the parking fills. Even though Hagar township says parking on the highway isn’t permitted we saw a several cars parked on the side of the road every time we passed.
