If you’re searching for a relaxing dog-friendly spot in Clare, Michigan, The Dam at Lake Shamrock offers a serene natural setting by the water. Known for its peace and quiet, this park is popular with both fishing enthusiasts and families. While not a dedicated dog park, it’s a pet-friendly area where dog owners can explore the natural beauty of Clare with their pets by their side. The area features pet-friendly trails and access to the lake, making it an option for those who love outdoor adventures with their dogs. Please note that while the atmosphere is generally clean and pleasant, some reviews mention that certain areas could be better maintained.
The Dam at Lake Shamrock features a small waterfront, gentle waterfalls, and open grassy areas ideal for on-leash walks. It’s good for kids, so families can spend a day by the water enjoying the scenery. However, shade is somewhat limited, and there are no mention of fenced dog areas or other traditional dog park amenities. Make sure to bring your own water and waste bags, and be mindful that the area may feel rustic, with some pipes and overgrown patches. Still, it’s a unique local gem for anyone wanting a scenic, dog-friendly outing in Clare, Michigan.
I went here to go fishing, everything was really clean and it was a nice little place to go, it could use some more shaded areas, but the only reason I didn’t give five stars is because I didn’t catch any fish, just kept losing my tackle on fishing lines stuck at the bottom side of the dam. All in all, it’s a great little place, though.
Love this place. Changed alot though the years. Great fishing.
This lake is awesome. 2 times, I and a friend went out on kyaks the first time he caught a huge pike. The second time, I caught a 5.4lb 23-inch large mouth it was awesome
This could be a very nice park. It’s not big, but it has the water running through there and a little waterfall/dam. They let the weeds overgrow everything and all these pipes (sewer lines?) running all over the place. You have to step over them everywhere. There’s this dumpy tent in the middle of the park that looks like a transient lives there. The water is getting some brown foam and I noticed all the crawfish are dead on the bottom of the lake. There’s absolutely nothing there but garbage and grafitti painted on the sidewalk crossing the tiny bridge. They could put in, maybe a playground, or a couple picnic, tables and barbecue grills. It’s just dumpy anymore. And take the broken up chunks of concrete out of the lake! So sad, there’s not many nice parks in Clare and this is just another casualty.
Mediocre fishing, hit or miss in most spots, gotta get creative to catch em due to this being a high pressured area. Decent scenery though.
