🐾 How to Handle Aggressive Dogs at the Dog Park – Real Advice from Dog Owners
Visiting the dog park can be a joyful activity for both you and your furry friend—but aggressive encounters can quickly […]
Located at 900 Greenbrier Pkwy, City Park Dog Park is a friendly, fenced area designed for dog owners in the Chesapeake, Virginia, region. This well-loved dog park offers plenty of space for your furry friends to run, play, and socialize off-leash, making it a favorite spot for locals seeking dog-friendly recreation. Membership is required, and rangers do visit the park regularly, so be sure to follow posted guidelines to keep your visits enjoyable.
The park features two separate, double-gated areas for large and small dogs, trash bins, and poop bag dispensers are available throughout to help keep the space clean. While there is a beautiful tree providing shade in the smaller dog area, shade is limited elsewhere, and there isn’t a water fountain, so bring your own water and bowl for your pup. Seating for owners is limited to one bench per side, so plan ahead if you need to rest. The park sits within the scenic Chesapeake City Park and offers easy access to pet-friendly trails and wide-open spaces for your pets to explore.
Awesome place for your dogs to mingle and run off some steam. Membership is technically required but I went there for 1 yr before I knew when the rangers showed up. They were very nice and understanding I did have to leave but they guided me on how to obtain proper membership. Overall the people that visit are laid back everyone’s furry pets have a blast!
Nice park unless it gets more than 5 pups or so then it’s a little crowded due to the size. The grass can get a little tall and after cutting it just makes a mess for trying to play ball.
I have a sugar glider that loves meeting new people daily. I have found that on his nonpeople days it settles him going to the dog park and watching all the puppies and their hoomans running around and playing. Sometimes when the shows are really good he gets very vocal. I’m not sure if he is telling me all about the puppies and their hoomans or if he is telling them how much he is enjoying the show but he loves it!! If you ever see him on the dash of my jeep watching and would like to meet him, he would love to meet you!😁
This is a nice, large park to bring friendly dogs. Our pups have made a lot of friends and beg to go regularly. Bring water if you plan to stay a while. Like others have said, there’s not much shade and it can be rather muddy after it rains.
I offer my disabled POV for others. My dog and I enjoy this dog park. I like to go early as I’m disabled, use a cane, can’t walk far, and need to sit. All problems when the place is busy. Both sides have one bench each. (From my personal experience, don’t drive your scooter if you don’t want to risk damage. There’s loose rocks and uneven ground). If you can’t stand for long periods of time and can’t carry a folding chair safely, maybe coming early would be a better bet. (I recently tried my w/c. Pushing it ahead of me while using my cane worked out well. My dog is trained to walk alongside).
There are 2 sides to the dog park, a large one, and a smaller. Both have double door entrances. Garbage cans and doggie plastic pick-up the poop bags are available throughout. Grab a bottle of water and a bowl for your dog as this dog park does not have taps. There is a portable toilet outside the fence by the entrance. That being said, it’s a very nice park with a big beautiful tree shading the smaller side. My photos are taken of the entrances, and of the smaller of the two sides.
