MDOT Roadside Park, conveniently located at 5536 US-23 near Cheboygan, Michigan, is a scenic and pet-friendly stop perfect for dog owners traveling between Cheboygan and Mackinaw City. The park is praised for its quiet atmosphere, open grassy spaces, and memorable views—some even offering a sightline to the Mackinac Bridge and Grand Hotel. Whether you’re looking for a quick walk with your dog, a picnic with family, or a place to stretch your legs, this park offers a refreshing break along US-23.
Although not a traditional fenced dog park, MDOT Roadside Park features plenty of recreational space for leashed pets. Accessibility is a priority with wheelchair-accessible entrances and parking. Amenities such as picnic tables, primitive but clean restrooms, and hard-packed gravel walking paths (including access to the North Country Trail) offer comfort for both two- and four-legged visitors. The park is also popular with families, featuring safe areas for kids and dog owners to enjoy together.
My favorite place to visit between Cheboygen and Mackinaw City! Beautiful!
Beautiful place to stop for lunch with a view of the Mackinaw bridge.
We found it last year and came back this year, we’re from Muskegon, Michigan I don’t know how you’ll like it but we love it.
You can see the bridge and the Grand Hotel
Nice roadside park, less than 10 miles from Mackinac City, with a large grassy area for recreating.( We played frisbee there) Beach is swimmable if somewhat rocky. Direct access to the north country trail across US23. ( Hard packed gravel) Only about 7 miles to Mackinaw City. Primitive but clean bathrooms.
Always clean, quiet and peaceful, we’ve stopped here many times on our way from Cheboygan to Mackinaw. Restrooms are large, clean portolets so that’s not ideal but at least there’s hand sanitizer
