Located in the heart of Columbia County, Ooms offers a picturesque escape for dog owners looking for pet-friendly trails and serene views. This beautiful nature preserve in Chatham, NY, is known for its tranquil pond, expansive boardwalk, and peaceful, dog-friendly hiking paths. The park is a bird sanctuary, providing a unique spot to observe local wildlife while walking your dog on leash and enjoying breathtaking foliage throughout the year.
Ooms is perfect for a quiet outing with your furry friend. While dogs must remain leashed, visitors appreciate the ample spots to sit and enjoy lunch with views of the pond, as well as the wide, less-crowded trails ideal for calm strolls. While there is no designated off-leash area or dog-specific amenities like water fountains or agility equipment, the relaxing atmosphere, seating areas, and natural shade make Ooms one of the most beautiful destinations for nature-loving dog owners in Chatham, New York.
Ooms Pond is the most beautiful and peaceful location to go for a walk with your dog. There is something so calming about Ooms that doesn’t quite exist at other locations in the area. I have been going for years and it never fails to impress with its beautiful views, birds, and overall calming vibes. Please keep your dog on a leash, and pick up after them so we can all continue to enjoy this spot with our fur babies for many more years to come!!
The Columbia Land Conservancy has done an amazing job turning this farm into a stunning yet serene refuge for wildlife and humans!
First time going here, and I loved it. Lots of various ways you can along the trails. Wasn’t tremendously crowded so most of the time I didn’t cross paths with many people. Quiet, lots of places to sit, and a great spot for taking a variety of pictures. Saw several different species of birds including Red Winged Blackbirds, Downy Woodpecker, and Bluebirds. I will definitely be returning here when it gets warmer and things start to bloom more.
Love the boardwalk – and the vistas. It would be great if there was a faucet for dogs and people to stay hydrated. Also would be great to have a board walk on the east part of the path. It’s pretty mushy!
This place is beautiful, we visited last weekend. Oct 18th to 20th. The foliage was breath taking. The walk was enjoyable and we even had a quick lunch on a bench at the edge of the pond. I definitely recommend. It is also a bird sanctuary.
