Located at 8617 Monroe Rd, McAlpine Creek Dog Park is a top-rated dog park in Charlotte, North Carolina, offering both locals and visitors a spacious place for their pets to exercise and socialize. This dog park is known for its beautiful setting near pet-friendly trails and a scenic lake, making it popular among dog owners who enjoy dog-friendly hiking and walking in addition to off-leash play.
The park features a dedicated large dog area (20 lbs and up) with one open field and a shaded section, as well as a separate run for small dog breeds. It is fully fenced for safety and allows dogs to play off-leash within these designated spaces. McAlpine Creek Dog Park is open from sunrise to sunset and is frequented by friendly, regular patrons and their socialized pups. While the community is supportive and most owners are responsible, visitors should be aware that the pathways can become muddy after rain, particularly near connecting gates between sections.
We enjoyed a nice walk around the lake before heading into the 20lbs and up dog area. It was nice, some smaller dogs were inside when we arrived which was worrisome. So we waited for them to leave.

I went to the dogs park and let me tell you…It’s huge. My dogs had a great time out there. No complaints from me

There is a large run area available for dogs over 20 lbs. There is a smaller run for 20lb dogs and smaller. These two areas are great places for dogs to run off some energy.
There are many regular patrons. Most people carry a poop bag. Most dogs are socialized and respectful of other dogs and people.
***** There is a gate open now connecting two sections of the over 20 lb. run area. The opening is a nasty, muddy, passage more like an impassable mud sluice. Yuk! This gate should be closed and the mud passage covered in stone or other top dressing. Most of these dogs are loaded into cars after the romp and then into the house upon return. The muddy gateway is inconsistent with a pleasant outing.
With so many newcomers to the area a staff member/ranger should be more directly involved in overseeing the dog park. Some folks show up and look surprised when their dog poops on the pitch. Some people think it’s ok to allow their dogs off leash on the nearby trails and on the walk from parked auto to dog park entrance. An off-leash pit bull loping toward my leashed corgi and cavipoo loomed ominous until the owner came into sight and called the dog back.
It’s a good dog park. Let’s make it better.
