Newell Recreation Preserve, Licking County

Newell Recreation Preserve serves as a convenient trail access point to the Heart of Ohio Trail with a paved bike path connecting Centerburg to Sunbury. It is known for its accessibility including wheelchair accessible parking, and is dog-friendly and good for children. While primarily a parking lot and trailhead currently, it provides a scenic hiking and biking experience with seasonal wildflowers and native plant habitats. Amenities such as restrooms, playgrounds, or picnic areas are not available at this time.

The paved bike path now goes though here from Centerburg to Sunbury. (But No restroom, no playground, no picnic area)
As of the begining of summer 2023 not much more than a parking lot. Some development needed to make it more than a trail head for the Heart of Ohio Trail.
This is a very convenient trail access point. Once in a while I see people idling in vehicles in the parking lot and they seem to be doing sketchy things, but I haven’t been robbed yet 😂
Lovely hiking/biking trail! Lots of wildflowers in the spring. 💕
I love seeing increases parking opportunities around our trail systems. Sometimes trails go for miles without any free public parking but that seems to be changing. I appreciate that seems to be an initiative to increase acess while also providing beneficial native plant habitats.
