Discover the scenic beauty of Oyster Village Horse Island Trail, a pet-friendly trail located along the water in Cape Charles, Virginia. This peaceful trail features a uniquely crafted shell pathway, offering beautiful views of the marsh and shoreline as you walk. It’s a favorite spot for watching sunrises, sunsets, and even rocket launches from Wallops Island. The serene surroundings and short, easy walk make it a popular choice for dog owners seeking an enjoyable outdoor adventure with their furry friends.
This dog-friendly hiking trail is ideal for exploring the local natural habitat, encountering playful crabs at low tide, and enjoying a bit of fun at the swing or bamboo teepee near the end of the path. While there are no designated fenced areas or water stations, the trail provides a natural escape with plenty of shade and picturesque spots to relax. Be aware that the trail is sometimes muddy at high tide and can get buggy when the wind is down, so plan your visit accordingly.
Best trail for sunrise and beautiful at sunset too! Sometimes a bit muddy at high tide.

Loved this trail by the water – we were happy to have found it. They did a very nice job making the pathway with shells – it looks lovely. Except for the odd boat going out here and there, the boat ramp is across the water from the trail, it was very peaceful and the views of the water and marsh were lovely.
We must have hit it at very low tide because as we got closer to the end of the path there were a bazillion little crabs all about. They were everywhere, so we really couldn’t get to the very end of the path without stepping on them – so we didn’t make it to the very end sadly. We’ll try it again when we’re in the area. This was our last trail of the day and it was a nice one to end out the day.

wonder full trail totally worth it. The end of the trail is a tree with an old tire swing as well as a regular swing. It is a great spot for reading and exploring! About a month ago i built a bamboo TP at the end and decided to make a YouTube video out of it. The day after I built the TP I had to rebuild it because wind blew it over. If you visit the TP it is tucked away next to the tree instead of out front next to the tree ( as shown in the YouTube video) FYI.
P.S. you should leave before high tide and you should not go during high tide e you cant get to the end of the trail.

A short and fun trail. If you have kids, they may find some fun in the mini crabs on the beach or the small swing on a tree towards the end. (Be careful, though. That tree has a wasps nest on it.) You have to go back the way you came, and the path is a bit thin in places but generally fun.
