Buncombe County Dog Park in Candler, North Carolina

Located just outside Asheville, Buncombe County Dog Park offers dog owners a spacious, pet-friendly environment to let their furry friends run and play. This popular dog park features separate fenced areas for both large dogs (over 25–30 lbs) and small dogs (under 25–30 lbs), so pups of all sizes can socialize safely. The park is equipped with water stations, tennis balls, and some agility elements like ramps and tunnels to keep dogs engaged. Owners will find benches for relaxing, some shade from trees and shelters, and poop bags for easy cleanup.

The park is known for its vibrant community of friendly dogs and attentive owners. There are gravel and grassy areas for variety, though conditions can get muddy or dusty depending on recent weather. Access to the French Broad River, nearby hiking trails, and a playground for kids make this dog park a perfect weekend destination for families. Please note that parking is available, though it may require a short walk, and the entrance can be a bit tricky to locate because of conflicting signs. Buncombe County Dog Park stands out as one of the few reliable and open dog parks in the Asheville area, especially after recent storms, making it a favorite among locals looking for dog-friendly hiking and recreation options.

There’s not many dog parks left in Asheville after the hurricane. This one’s pretty good although there’s so much clay dirt that the dogs get filthy every time they play Maybe if they added mulch or grass I don’t know

Very limited shaded/covered areas, but decent sized open area for dogs 30+ lbs and a separate fenced area for dogs under 30 lbs. There was a working water station but it was rusty and appeared a little unclean in my opinion. It’s a decent, free park, go in with average expectations and you’ll be fine.

As far as I know, this is the last dog park in town after the storm. And it’s usually pretty good, though nothing spectacular. But we showed up on a beautiful Sunday morning with our puppy, only to find the dog park padlocked shut. If there was a reason to close the dog park today, I wish they would have left a sign or something. We’re driving to Mills River now for their very nice (and reliable) dog park.

This dog park has section off areas for size of dog and is a very busy dog park as most dog parks are not accessible after hurricane Helene. There are balls for water bring your friend for a play date.

Great dog park! One of the few that’s open post-hurricane. Has benches. Has shade. Only downside is: the “grassy part” is always struggling so parts are either dusty or muddy, depending on the weather. I’d give 4.5 out of 5 stars. My dog says “5 out of 5!”
