Located in scenic Bushkill, Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area offers a dog-friendly oasis for both adventure seekers and those looking for a peaceful retreat. With its sprawling natural beauty, this destination features beautiful river views, waterfalls, and a wide variety of pet-friendly and dog-friendly trails. Whether you’re looking to hike Mount Tammany, take an easy stroll along the water, or simply relax at a quiet picnic spot, this national recreation area is perfect for dogs and their owners to explore nature together.
The park is well-loved for its leash-optional areas where dogs can roam off leash in designated zones. Two separate sections cater to both large and small dogs, and spacious, grassy areas provide ample room for play. Benches and seating areas allow owners to relax while keeping an eye on their pets. Parking is plentiful and shaded spots are available to beat the summer heat, though pet owners are encouraged to bring their own water, bug spray, and waste bags, as on-site amenities can be limited.
Went here recently and absolutely loved it! The whole place is so peaceful and full of beautiful views everywhere you look. I did the Mount Tammany hike, it was a bit of a workout, but the view from the top overlooking the river was totally worth it. There are also lots of easy trails and quiet spots by the water if you just want to relax or have a picnic. The waterfalls make the whole area feel so refreshing and calm.
I’m already planning to go back in the fall to see the leaves change, I can imagine it’s even more stunning then. Definitely one of my favorite nature spots so far!
This was a really cute spot. Not too busy with a lot of great waterfalls and dog friendly trails. The main visitor center is the Bushkill meeting center so don’t miss that on your way up.
What a beautiful place. Great for water sports in the summer. Clear water, wildlife, the view… everything is great. Would love to come back in fall to kayak and see the changing colors.
What an amazing unit of the National Park Service. The Delaware Water Gap has something for everyone! I highly recommend exploring it. The waterfalls here were some of the best I’ve ever seen!
This park is large and the scenery is absolutely beautiful. Because this place is so large, I was only able to do a couple of the trails, which were very easy. The areas I visited were free, but on the map I picked up at the Bushkill Meeting Center, there are several locations where you have to pay.
They have plenty of parking and restrooms (porta pottys). I’d advise bringing plenty of water and snacks since it doesn’t seem like they have places to buy food or drinks. They do have benches if you plan on having a picnic. Also, spray yourself generously with bug spray as there are a lot of bugs flying all around.
I plan on driving back this way in the fall to try some other harder trails and to admire the fall foliage. Coming here is a great way to get some exercise and be outdoors in nature.
