Located in the heart of Geauga County, Burton Wetlands Nature Preserve offers dog owners a peaceful, pet-friendly space to enjoy scenic hikes and nature walks. With miles of trails winding through goldenrod fields, forests, and around Lake Kelso, this dog-friendly hiking spot is perfect for leashed adventures close to nature. The park stands out for its quiet atmosphere, making it a relaxing retreat for both humans and their canine companions.
The preserve is wheelchair accessible, features public restrooms, and welcomes families with children. While there are no designated dog park amenities like fences or water stations, the extensive trails and stunning natural landscapes appeal to those seeking a versatile outdoor activity with their pets. Visitors particularly love the abundant wildlife, seasonal butterflies, and birdwatching opportunities. Be mindful that some trails may become muddy or underwater during wet weather, and bring your own water for you and your pup.
Great trails, fields of goldenrod, butterflies bees, and all kinds trees. Enjoyed the walk and will return.
Not cool to state on signs that a trail is wheelchair accessible when its not. Probably illegal to state that. Likr maybe 30 years ago that was a paved trail. No upkeep to this place at all
I give this place a 5 because I am a birder and it’s a great place to bird. Very quiet and underused park. That said, there aren’t any amenities so for families there are better choices. It can be buggy after late May or so. Check out the beautiful glacial kettle lake (Lake Kelso) and in late summer and Fall look for butterflies in the fields. The Lake Kelso overlook is the best place I know of to learn about poison sumac!
Gorgeous and quiet on a weekday morning. Bigger loop trail is across the street from the parking but definitely worth the slight confusion.
Was their earlier this week. Very very nice park. Very quiet. If you want peace and silence and just listen to Nature, this park is for you. I used to go to the park when I was a kid when my grandparents used to bring me here.
Only little downfall, which I already notified Geauga Park District, is the short path to the viewing deck was under water. I was notified yesterday 12/8/21, their Operations Department will be out soon to fix that issue.
