Where this is on Google Maps is the easternmost trailhead for the Townsend Trail. You are within Bryan Park and at two soccer fields. There is no gate here so that makes it convenient. There is a large parking lot (sharing with soccer fields) for maybe 50 cars. No bathrooms here.The trail from here can be confusing for some because it goes in the woods from the lot, crosses a bridge, comes out of the woods onto Townsend Road, and then into a larger parking lot in between several soccer fields. This lot is gated unless the fields are being used at the time. So no skipping the initial trailhead.The trail then goes back into the woods for good until it ends at its westernmost point at Yanceyville Street (connecting to Osprey Trail).My advice is just to follow the white circle blazes throughout all of the woods and lots and you will be ok. Don’t stray. Know that you will walk through several lots, before things really begin.
Beautiful trail, great place to walk a dog
Lots of miles of trail to explore. The sign says it’s 3.8 miles, but we tackled that much before turning back and we had only gotten to marker 166’ish and it started on 180. Looking forward to tackling some more of it when we get an earlier start.

This is the easternmost portion of Townsend Trail. Parking is in the soccer complex of Bryan Park. The trail cuts through the woods, by a pond, exits onto Townsend Road and through another parking lot before picking back up on Townsend Trail yet again. See map picture for detail. It would seem convenient to park in the lot you are forced to walk through, but the gate is locked when there are no activities forcing you to park at the trailhead marked on Google to access the trail.
