When this park was first redesigned, it was really nice. It still can be—on a quiet day, it’s a decent spot to sit, think, or just enjoy the weather.

Unfortunately, some people treat it like their personal backyard. The exercise area has turned into a hangout spot, with folks lounging on the equipment, kids climbing all over it, and even the occasional full-on cookout—despite there being NO barbecue area here. Trash often gets left behind as a souvenir.

But the real issue is the dog owners who apparently never got the memo that leashes exist. Almost every visit, there’s at least one off-leash dog running around like it owns the place. They let their dogs poop right on the baseball diamond, where kids and others play, and often don’t even clean it up—even though there are free poop bags hanging on the fence.

I went recently with my own (leashed) dog and ended up being attacked by a large off-leash dog. My dog got bitten, and I hit the ground hard—knee, thigh, hip, hand, everything. The owner barely intervened and took off while I was still on the ground.

All in all, it’s a nice park that’s been hijacked by people who don’t know how to share public space—or how leashes work.
