FAQ for Prospect Park Wetland in Brooklyn New York:
Love this spot. So many hidden gems all around the park. I go a few times a week at all different hours. The wildlife are so gorgeous and really make this spot a refuge from the city. Bring a blanket or a fishing pole to the designated spots all around the pond.
A nice calm retreat in the middle of Brooklyn. Can just lay here, have some snacks, chat, catch up with friends…what the park can do is clear all the green algae though. I feel sorry for all the turtles in the water..
My nieces had fun running around in the ankle high water. They also enjoyed it when the water shot up from around the edges. The water was really cold when we stepped in but it didn’t take long to get use to it. Afterwards the sun’s heat dried us up. We had fun just laying on the grass.
I took my sister out for her birthday. We trotted the kayaking. It was amazing in not sure what the price is but I had bought it via groupon and it was NULL for two person which I thought was a good price. Go when the sun isn’t up since there is lil to no shade. You can choose between the cycle pedal boats (a bit of a learning curve but you’ll stay dry and can seat up to 4) or the paddle kayak (which I think is easier to maneuver) but you’ll get wet and seats only 2. It’s for an hour I think so do be mindful of that and don’t forget to get your ID when you’re down because no one will be checking you out really even when you check out on your own they may not remember to give you your ID. I just wished there would be someone in the middle of the lake for quick support in case someone falls. Overall great experience the wait may be a killer and 2 hrs before they close they don’t take anymore people.
I could see The Duck Island, the lake area and its wetlands. In fact, all this lushly area are home to American coots and little pied-billed grebes that quickly duck underwater as they dive for insects and plants. Many varieties of ducks can be found here, as well as mute swans. Turtles such as snapping, painted and red-eared sliders, and amphibians such as spotted salamanders, wood frogs, Also Fowler’s toads and spring peepers reside in ponds and wetlands.****
