🐾 How to Handle Aggressive Dogs at the Dog Park – Real Advice from Dog Owners
Visiting the dog park can be a joyful activity for both you and your furry friend—but aggressive encounters can quickly […]
Located in the heart of Brooklyn, NY, Callahan-Kelly Playground stands out as a vibrant, newly renovated community park. This spacious park is perfect for families and pet owners seeking a friendly place for outdoor activities. Known for its lively atmosphere, Callahan-Kelly offers large open spaces for playing with dogs, making it a popular dog park in Brooklyn for those who enjoy walking or exercising their pets. While the park is not a dedicated off-leash area for dogs, it is often frequented by dog owners who love the open, pet-friendly environment.
The park features amenities such as basketball courts, a calisthenics area, picnic lounges, playgrounds for kids, skateboarding areas, and plenty of seating for visitors to relax. Its central location next to a major transportation junction means it’s easily accessible for locals and visitors alike. Shade trees and outdoor seating offer comfort on sunny days, making it a pleasant spot for both exercise and relaxation with your pet. While there isn’t a fenced or double-gated dog area, many Brooklyn residents appreciate the community vibe and multi-use space, making it a unique, dog-friendly gathering point.
The park has finally finished the renovation and it’s beautiful 😍. You can do everything there even skateboarding! Even the smell of weed is nostalgic!!! 😅 Nah it’s nice tho!! 😊
The park is nice..however. This park needs to be cleaned on a regular basis. I should not have to smell urine or have the kids constantly pass garbage around the park. Parks and Recreation needs a full-time attendant making sure it stays clean at all times. It’s next to a school and also buy a major transportation junction. There are homeless people around and it needs to be super used more. Otherwise..there is no point for it being there.

Very cute and fun park. It’s big and felt safe. No adults allowed unless accompanying children. There are two playgrounds, 2 sets of swings and a field. Also a skatepark!
Big shout out to Tyler 🤜🏾🤛🏻who addressed me with the coolest vibes! And to the two other homies who helped me manage my stuff and had a brief conversation 🗣️with me.
🛼Ranking Level of skate park: Intermediate – Advanced
Banks -There are a lot of banks with coping but a few without coping. Great to work on stalls, & grinds! There are banks that are as low as approximately 3 feet and then some that are higher. Each has at least one deep pocket which is great to work on carving.
⚠️There is one advanced level bank that has a very steep drop in with a rectangular metal edge but has an UNeven surface towards the mid-end of it. It’s probably a good 8 feet in height. Upon my next visit, I will try it out! (Check photo)
Ledges – There are 3 ledges there each ranking from beginner, intermediate and advanced. The advanced ledge is attached to the ramp closer to the L train entrance/exit. (Measurements of some of the ledges are posted.) Great for jumping on and off into the ramp.
🌋Volcano – There is one volcano and it is about 2 feet in height and not very sloped so it is perfect for practicing fakies and doing other stunts. The low height and not so deep slope leaves great room for a quick reset into multiple tricks.
🔘Circular disc – Great to work on curved edges. Since the diameter is very wide and large, multiple folks can work on it all at once. It is probably only a foot in height. Not sure how else to use it. 🤷🏾♀️
🧱Rectangular block – There is a rectangular block where one can work on dropping down from the tallest bank and then jumping on the block to grind.
Overall – IF you’re working on grinds, stalls and carves on an early intermediate level this is a great park to get your practice in and take your level up to advance. However, if you’re a beginner there are not many beginner friendly obstacles here. Nevertheless, beginners should still check out the park and and challenge themselves.
Vibes are are very cool there btw. But I highly recommend you have someone to keep their eyes on your bags 🧳 or any stuff that you bring. Either that or leave it in your car. Not necessarily due to the skaters but to the many passer-byers heading to and fro from the train station.

The play ground was just reopened with beautiful outdoor space. The only thing missing is there is no bathroom facility. The park also has skateboarding. Chess tables basketball and plenty of outdoor seating.

When my daughter and I moved here a year ago this park was TERRIBLE!!! So they closed it down and build a new one. The pictures don’t do justice. Now my daughter asks to go almost everyday. They just reopened it about 2 months ago. It has an outdoor gym, soccer field, huge basketball court, skate park, picnic lounge are, the kiddy park is a nice size. I just hope these people keep it clean. Smh
