Grills Wildlife Sanctuary in Bradford, Rhode Island, offers a unique experience for dog owners looking for a dog-friendly hiking adventure. With well-maintained, well-marked trails winding through diverse landscapes—including rocky scrambles, scenic overlooks of Long Pond, creeks, wetlands, and lush forests—this sanctuary is a fantastic spot for outdoor enthusiasts and their pets. The park is known for its moderate to challenging trails, with plenty of natural shade and resting locations under the tree canopy, making it a great pet-friendly destination even during warmer months.
While there is a large, open dog park area popular among locals, please note that all dogs share the same space without separation for large and small dogs. Some reviews mention that the area could benefit from separate sections and additional safety features like double gates. Trails are perfect for active dogs and owners who enjoy exploration, but younger, older, or smaller dogs may find the rock scrambles challenging. Always bring water, bug spray, and wear suitable hiking shoes, as parts of the trail can get muddy or buggy, especially in the summer.
Lots of trail and multiple trailheads. Paths are well marked and well maintained. This is a great place for kids and dogs. There is an archeological section that you can pass through that feels special while you are there.
Flat, nice 3 miles for the dogs. I go in off hrs, to avoid other people and kiddos. .
Great forest atmosphere with plenty of resting locations, some with picnic tables. A few great points of interest (bridges and creeks with mini waterfalls). Some trails have moderate inclines that aren’t mentioned on the trailhead marker but are otherwise easy to follow. In summertime, bring your bug spray because it gets extremely buggy out in the wetland sections.
Great well marked trails. Well maintained. Easy to read maps at all critical junctions. There are a few creek crossings and lots of roots. I really enjoyed it.
A pleasant hike. Well marked trails. An easy walk. Most of the trail is under tree cover.
